How to connect my home phone to Fibre Box (ONT)?

Our VoIP-based phone line is connected through the Fibre Box (ONT). There are about a couple of ways to connect your phone to the Fibre Box (ONT).


Prepare for a landline connection

There are a few variations of Fibre Box (ONT) and you will find a phone connection port as POTS1 or TEL depend on the Fibre Box (ONT) installed at your property. Please see the below images to find out where you can locate a port for a connection.

You will also need a RJ11 cable for the connection from your phone to either Fibre Box (ONT) or jackpoint.

Option 1: Connect a phone directly to the Fibre Box (ONT) box.

Please connect the phone to the TEL/PHONE port at the bottom of the Fibre Box (ONT). Your phone needs to be located right next to where the Fibre Box (ONT) is located at your property.

Your phone -> RJ11 cable -> Fibre Box (ONT)

1. Grab an RJ11 cable and connect one end of the cable to your phone.

2. Connect the other end of the RJ11 cable to the TEL/PHONE port at the bottom of the Fibre Box (ONT).


Option 2: Connect a phone through the jackpoint on the wall.

RJ11 cable needs to be plugged between the TEL/PHONE port at the bottom of the Fibre Box (ONT) and the nearest jackpoint on the wall. If you have wiring done for all your jackpoints in your home then you may be able to plug your phone to any of working jackpoint on the wall.

You need to get two separate connections as below.

- Main jackpoint on the wall -> using a RJ11 cable -> Fibre Box (ONT)

- Any working jackpoint on the wall -> using a RJ11 cable -> Your phone

1. Grab an RJ11 cable and connect one end of the cable to the main jackpoint on the wall.

2. Connect the other end of RJ11 cable to the TEL/PHONE port at the bottom of the Fibre Box (ONT).

3. Grab another RJ11 cable and connect one end of the cable to a working jackpoint on the wall.

4. Connect the other end of the RJ11 cable to your phone.
