WiFi Calling on Your Mobile Phone
- 1 Minute to read
WiFi Calling is a convenient feature that allows you to make and receive calls and texts using a WiFi connection, rather than relying solely on your mobile network. Whether you're in an area with poor cellular coverage or even if there is no mobile coverage, WiFi Calling ensures you stay connected. You can make calls and send texts even when you have a weak or no mobile signal, providing you with reliable communication wherever you are, as long as your phone has a WiFi connection.
WiFi Calling works the same way as a regular cellular mobile call, using the dialling functions and address book on your phone. The difference lies in how the call is transmitted. WiFi Calling uses a WiFi connection to carry the services instead of the cellular network (VoLTE), so there is no difference in call quality or functionality.
Setting up WiFi Calling is quick and straightforward. Firstly, ensure that you have a compatible mobile phone that has been updated with the latest software. Then, simply enable WiFi Calling in your phone's settings. Once activated, WiFi Calling functions just like a regular call, and any calls or texts made through WiFi Calling will be deducted from your plan's minutes or messaging allowance (not data).
However, it's important to note that if you're currently located overseas or if you're using a VPN service in NZ, you may not be able to use WiFi Calling.
Additionally, WiFi MMS services are not currently available with WiFi Calling.
